Life is Beautiful

Life is a mixture of things both good and bad. It is often filled with sadness, hardship, loss and an abundance of other negative experiences that can make it hard sometimes to push through and see the light at the end of the tunnel.

However, life is also filled with an abundance of amazing things such as, laughter, love, friends, family, gratitude and blissful moments.

My tagline, “Life Is Beautiful” came to me because of all of the above. Even through the difficulties that life throws at you, it is nonetheless beautiful.

This is what drew me to photography, because documenting life and telling the stories that people have to share, in a visual narrative, is something that I think is a wonderful thing.

I have always had a childish sense of wonderment and a thirst for adventure and I prefer to document the more positive aspects of life. Through my travels and through my photography, I have been able to document the beauty that this world beholds. This fills me with happiness on a daily basis.

The sole reason I am a photographer, is to see the beauty. Being constantly captivated by our world.

Life is beautiful. Go capture the beauty and never let go.

The Importance of Teamwork

If someone were to ask me, “What is the one thing that has helped you get to where you are now?” my response would be an easy one, teamwork.

All too often, we take on more than we can handle as entrepreneurs. We wear ALL the hats, we work crazy hours and most of the time, it is incredibly hard for us to give up control. My business is my baby, it is my passion. I have put so much time into growing my brand, so many tears into it, so many ups and downs and still, it fills me up and gives me a purpose that I never thought possible. However, when it comes to letting others in and trusting another person with these responsibilities, it has always made me feel uneasy. That was at least until last October, when I found Kate!

Not very long ago, I read a blog by the incredible Jenna Kutcher. This blog changed my life and my business. She wrote a blog on how she hired a virtual assistant and as soon as I read it, I knew what I had to do and I knew what my business needed and that was having a reliable team.

I immediately reached out to her VA, Caitlyn Jeffery. Caitlyn thankfully took me on as a client and this is when the paradigm of when my business shifted into more than I could have ever hoped for.

Eventually, Caitlyn split off to work exclusively with Jenna and Caitlyn’s business partner, Kate Quin, took over the business. Kate and I have been working together for many months now. She has become such an integral part of how I run my business and in helping it grow and run smoothly. She is my right hand gal and I feel so incredibly fortunate to have her beside me as I grow The Argus Image.

There are not enough ways to express my gratitude for Kate. She has worked day in and day out with me to get my business where I have always wanted it to be. The best part? I FINALLY have time to pursue the aspects of photography I have been trying to break into for years. Not only that, I finally have that work-life balance I have been longing for… for such a long time.

You know that feeling, the one you hear people talking about, when everything is in order, when you can breath and feel relaxed? No? Yeah, I didn’t either until Kate came into my life.

Currently, I am in Iceland. Since I have been away, I have had Kate be in control of The Argus Image. It has been such a relief to know my business is in good hands and that I do not have to worry, get distracted and that I can actually enjoy my time away from home.

For so long I would have this feeling that if I took a rest period, or time for myself, that it would all fall apart. I cannot tell you what a relief it has been to have someone take on these challenges for me and to know without a doubt, that I always have someone looking out for my business. Plus, she is a rockin’ girlboss as well and she gets it. She knows the struggle and she understands better than anyone what it takes!

So, fellow entrepreneurs, if you have been finding yourself feeling overwhelmed, overworked and in need of help, I encourage you to hire yourself a virtual assistant or someone who can help you and be your backbone while you focus on other things. You know, like the actual work you’re passionate about!

Finding the right camera strap can be harder than you may think. I went through the standard Canon strap that came with my camera, to the leather Holdfast strap, to finally my all time favorite strap, the Yeti by Black Rapid.

I loved my holdfast strap but for shooting weddings, I found it a little too clunky and loud during the ceremony. Since I pretty much always have two cameras on me during a ceremony, I wanted something that was quiet and took off a lot of the camera weight from my body.

The Yeti is also wonderful when I am shooting wildlife and landscape photography or destination weddings. You can remove the double strap to make it a single, add or remove length and above all, it is INCREDIBLY comfortable.

The Yeti has a grip underside on the shoulder pad which makes it stay in place and another feature which I love are its adjustable tabs. With these tabs, I can keep my camera in place and control how much slack I want in front and behind my camera. This feature gives me the ultimate amount of control I need for each shoot no matter what I am taking photos of.

Lastly, I love the way the Yeti secures my camera. I know that no matter how much I am moving around and no matter the terrain, that my camera is safe and secure.

The Yeti by Black Rapid has been a game changer and I never go anywhere without it.

I hope you find this useful for your next shoot so that you’re not only shooting comfortably but confidently.

xx Britt

UPDATE: Just learned the Yeti is discontinued BUT this is a great NEW strap of theirs very similar to the Yeti.

Time for an upgrade? I think maybe!

Today on the blog I wanted to talk about getting over negativity and not letting various outliers in life get you in a negative mindset. Being able to push past the negative thoughts, doubts and personal problems we may be experiencing at the time and focusing on ourselves and our work is vital to achieving success.

The bottom line is EVERYONE makes mistakes.

No matter how long you have been doing something, you are going to make mistakes from time to time. It is so easy to get down on ourselves and beat ourselves up for the mistakes we make. I do it, more often than I would like to admit and this only prohibits us from being our best selves. After all, we are our own worst critics and we need to believe in ourselves instead of putting ourselves down.

I want to share with you what I have learned that has helped me turn negativity into productivity.

When you make a mistake it is important to realize what caused it. What could you have done to prevent that mistake from happening? Sometimes things happen that are out of our control, that we beat ourselves up over and that make us feel terrible. Sometimes another person’s negative attitude can bring us down or hurt us. So how do we get over it and turn this mindset into something positive that allows us to remain productive? Well, In situations like this, instead of letting your core get rattled, think of what you can do to let yourself shine past the thing that is bringing you down. Remember that the only person you can be sure to influence is yourself, so let go of the negativity and focus on YOU. Focus on being the best version of yourself.

If we own our mistakes and even what we may consider to be failures, remembering that we cannot change what has happened and concentrate on the future, then we can become in control of negative circumstances. Growing each day as stronger individuals and as the talented entrepreneurs that we are.

Learning from these bumps in the road are what make us stronger. The next time you let negative thoughts or negative people get in your head, remember to rise above it and move past it. You just have to believe in yourself.
